Wreaths have a long history of symbolic meaning. They have been used for millennia to mark the changing of seasons, accentuate celebrations and announce the commencement of festivals. They are a sign of welcome on entrance gates and front doors. At Hyams we are pleased to offer a quality selection of seasonal wreaths with enhanced décor and custom ribbons. With the onset of the Fall and Christmas Seasons we have a wide variety to match your unique taste and style.

2021 Hyams Christmas Room
Let Heaven and Nature Sing!
Every year in the beginning of Autumn, Hyams Garden Center transforms its ‘Gift and Accent Store’ into a ‘Christmas Room’ giving its visitors a window into a land of magic and wonder. The 2021 Christmas Room opens with the theme “Let Heaven and Nature Sing.”
Christmas is the feast of a great encounter between heaven and earth. God enters our human family. He comes down to live with us. The Divine takes our human form so that we humans can become divine. That moment of grace changes everything. Heaven and nature burst into joyful music and everything transforms …
“The 2021 Hyams Christmas Room” visually tries to present the theme of heaven with clouds, angels playing musical instruments and various nativity scenes. The nature themed items are represented by birds, deer, flowers, life like botanicals and so on. Charleston being a Coastal City, nature is also represented through a wide variety of ocean themed ornaments such as sea turtles, mermaids, octopi, coral reef and so on.
A creative team of half a dozen artists from the ‘Hyams Garden Center and Accent Store’ decide upon a Christmas theme as early as January every year and give their artistic imagination and skills a free reign all through the spring and the summer to create a magical Christmas room which opens for the public on the 1st of October and continues through Christmas. Visitors can pick up ornaments and Christmas decorations to enhance the beauty of their homes and usher in holiday cheer.
“Let heaven and nature sing!” What better way can the 40th anniversary of Hyams Garden Center be celebrated than through its 2021 Christmas Room? Kudos to every member of the artistic team!
Keeping the Christmas tree Fresh, Fragrant and Safe
How to have a perfect Christmas tree and keep it fresh, fragrant and safe?
Here is what you do with a North Carolina Fraser Fir Christmas Tree:
Make a Fresh Cut straight across the base of the tree, cut off approximately one half inch before placing tree in stand.
Use a stand that will hold a gallon of water or more
Check Water often, Keep the stand full
A tree may take up a gallon of water in the first 24 hours and a quart a day after that. Preservatives are not needed, just plenty of fresh water.
Place tree away from heat sources, heating vents, fire places, wood stoves, radiators and sunny windows
Check lights and cords for broken bulbs and frayed wiring.
Do not overload electric circuits
Turn off lights before leaving home or going to bed.
Remember, a fresh cut, plenty of water, and a bit of common sense is all it takes to enjoy your North Carolina Fraser Fir.
Have a Joyous Holiday Season.

2020 Hyams Christmas Room
Each year Hyams Garden Center sets up its ‘Christmas Room’ filled with unique ornaments and home décor arranged thematically to help Charlestonians decorate their homes and gardens during this festive time of year. The 2020 Hyams Christmas Room is now open with the heartwarming theme: ‘Over the River and through the Wood.’
The images posted here give a sneak peek into this colorfully decorated room. You are most welcome to visit Hyams Accent and Gift Store and enjoy shopping for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Kindly wear a mask and follow all the protocols of social distancing to keep yourself and others safe from Covid-19 while at the same time enjoying your shopping experience.
We can all use a bit of nostalgia at this time of the year. The 2020 Hyams Christmas Room display is inspired by a traditional poem for children. ‘Over the River and through the wood’ was written by Lydia Maria Child and published in 1844. It has been sung across America for decades. We add our own playful stanza to inaugurate the opening of the season:
Over the River and through the Wood
To Hyams Christmas Room we go,
To find great décor throughout the store!
Oh let festive trumpets blow!
